Basic Science MD Program The basic science program is designed to prepare students to perform proficiently during their clinical medicine rotations. The basic science program encompasses four semesters (16 months) on the Anguilla campus. The curriculum covers subjects such as Gross Anatomy, Pathology, Histology, and Physiology, which are supplemented with hands on clinical training at the local hospital and clinics on Anguilla. One of the goals of the program is to introduce students to patient care and medical procedures in a clinical setting early in their training. The basic sciences program is followed by six semesters of clinical rotations at hospitals in the United States and abroad. An excellent student/professor ratio provides ample opportunity for students to interact with the SJSM staff and faculty. It has been our experience over the years that students perform better when their classroom experience is enhanced by personal interaction with their professors. We also offer a personalized instruction module designed to improve test taking skills where a need is identified. This can make a significant difference in academic performance.
