Student Housing

Apartments are located within walking distance from the main campus. Based on availability, most apartments are fully equipped with a private bath, walk-in closet, ceiling fan, air conditioning, refrigerator, microwave, twin bed, a desk, chair and a lamp. Laundry facilities are located on the bottom floor of the complexes. Residing close to campus will give students an opportunity to meet classmates, become oriented with the island, and form study groups that may lead to future roommates. Student housing accommodation lists are available from the Saint James School of Medicine's housing coordinator. Students are advised to declare their arrival date two to three weeks before classes start.   

Off-campus Housing
Most of the medical students live off campus in fully furnished apartments and single-family houses.  Single rooms are also available for rent throughout the island. Three and four bedroom houses are available, so students with large families may check with SJSM’s housing coordinator well in advance to discuss their housing needs.  Please notify the housing coordinator at least one month before classes begin.

Many families on Bonaire have private rooms for rent and all rentals are completely furnished which includes furniture, linens, towels, air conditioning and fans. You may want to bring extra bed linens and towels along with a good reading lamp. All electrical outlets are 110 volts and it is recommended that you have a surge protector if you are planning to bring any electronic equipment. Phones/Internet/Cable TV
Cell phones are readily available and most apartments and homes include a phone. No deposit is usually required for installation through TELBO. Long distance rates are expensive so you may want to apply for a U.S. call back number or arrange for a local cell phone. SJSM can provide this information upon your arrival. Students may use the computers and obtain e-mail at the SJSM computer lab. Private Internet connections at your home or apartment are available for approximately $30 a month and approximately 10 cents a minute. Cable TV is available for $30 a month and includes HBO and CINEMAX.
