Bryan Medical Center is the first Nebraska hospital with the latest innovative technology for patients with asthma. Asthma is a condition in which a person's airways become narrow and inflamed and produce extra mucus. Although clinically treatable, asthma can produce high discomfort and may often cause patients large financial expenses. New advancements have helped with treatment of this chronic lung disease, and patients at Bryan Medical Center are now able to receive the best care with a procedure called bronchial thermoplasty. This unique procedure uses a special catheter that heats when inserted in the lungs and reduces swelling by causing relaxation in the muscles that surround important airways. Such technology has limited hospitalizations, reduced emergency visits, revealed better clinical symptoms, and overall created a better quality of life for asthma patients. Watch as Dr. John Trapp of Nebraska Pulmonary Specialties explains some of the details surrounding this new medical development. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=156O3mcgsh8
