Since the start of the Saint James School of Medicine’s previous fall semester, the island of Bonaire has added new requirements for immigration for incoming students and residents alike. The government’s Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) processes all residency applications, with its newest list of requirements exceeding those of Anguilla and St. Vincent and the Grenadines in length. The requirements to emigrate from your country to the island of Bonaire are now as follows:
  • Final enrollment letter;
  • Passport copy, notarized;
  • Four (4) passport photos;
  • Health clearance;
  • Police clearance, apostilled/double legalized;
  • Insurance and copy of card;
  • Student contract form;
  • Honor code;
  • Driving waiver;
  • Bus waiver;
  • Bank statement, balance $7000 or more;
  • Marriage/Single certificate, apostilled/double legalized;
  • Birth certificate, apostilled/double legalized; and
  • Full tuition
Incoming students to the Bonaire school are strongly encouraged to contact their assigned SJSM document specialist in order to get a good head start on preparing the above materials. Most documents need to be turned in to INS at least 4 months prior to the intended date of arrival. Along with the list of required items, applicants should complete Form MBES-3 in its entirety. Given the number and complexity of Bonaire immigration documents, prospective students are encouraged to contact their assigned document specialist or SJSM’s U.S. headquarters at info@mail.sjsm.org or 1-800-542-1553.
