When it comes to the human mind, there are many capacities that fill it: consciousness, intelligence, rationality, creativity, empathy and love. However, how do other animals use their brains? Are they able to love in the same way that humans can? Well, by looking at evolution, the animals brains, and watching their behavior, we are able to see just how their brains are used. This is another unique and innovative way that science and research can help us learn about life on our planet. In the TEDTalk below, you'll be able to see how the emotions that we think make us human are not actually unique to us as humans. Animals are able to love, suffer from anxiety and maintain so many other feelings. Instead of thinking that that our mental capacities are unique to us, we should realize that we have the same emotions as other species but ours are just the most extreme. As humans, we are the most violent, compassionate and destructive. Love is not special to humans, other animals also care about their mates and children. The TEDTalk also discusses ways that humans can help these emotional species remain safe on our planet. Here in the Caribbean, with so many species at our doorstep, it's important to remember to be respectful to all the wildlife around us. In order to see the comparison between human and animal brains in more detail, take a look at the video below! https://www.ted.com/talks/carl_safina_what_are_animals_thinking_and_feeling/transcript?language=en#t-925759
