Apart from learning the material in the classrooms, it is important for student doctors to get some hands on experience as well. Our St Vincent campus formed an amazing collaboration with the local supermarkets on the island. Massey Stores and SJSM began the “Wellness Wednesdays” campaign just last semester. This is an initiative designed to encourage healthy living practices for Vincentian families.
Every Wednesday, SJSM volunteers offer free blood glucose and blood pressure screenings for any interested customers that come to shop at Massey. Between 10:00am and 3:00pm every Wednesday, 80-120 local community shoppers receive a screening and get their blood pressure and glucose checked. Not only do students get hands-on experience by administering the screenings, but they also have the privilege of serving the local community. The concept of Wellness Wednesdays is an amazing triumph for the student body and the community!
