Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: a case report
By Adrien Decena
Anguilla Campus
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a specific form of fatal chronic, progressive lung inflammation of unknown cause, primarily occurring in older men, associated with the pattern of so called interstitial pneumonia at X-ray or tissue sample obtained by biopsy. The presenting symptoms – exertional shortness of breath and/or a nonproductive cough – are not specific because many patients with cardiac or lung diseases can have them.
Our clinical student described a systematic approach to the diagnosis and management of a patient with this disease. The reader who wishes to increase their understanding of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis may find this case report very useful.
